A sword knot is a type of lanyard which is attached to the sword and looped around the hand to prevent the sword being lost if it is dropped. Usually made from leather, the sword knot maintains a practical function, yet it is often purely used for decorative design in modern day. The British Army adopted this design in the 19th century, making them from gold cord and braid to be worn by infantry officers. Sword knots were also later made available in silk with fine ornamental gold woven in to it to make the sword knot pattern. View the range of sword knots below.
